"Question Everything" LeoLeo is a duo formed by two young men who became friends at Sir Bernard Lovell School in Oldland Common , Near. Bristol. They are called Leo because they were both born in the month of August 1991. Ray Gallimore and Ricky Scullard joined forces to play a duet at a school concert in July 2006 and proved to be a very formidable act. Ricky lives in Bristol with his father Joe who is himself an accomplished musician and fronts a Bristol band called Tin Dogs. Obviously Ricky has been brought up surrounded by music and has learnt to appreciate all styles. He has written poignant lyrics that have been hard to imagine came from the pen of one so young. In 1996 his 21 year old Uncle, Daniel Gallimore, lost his sight trying to stop an attack on a young man in a Bristol Street. Ricky was catapulted into the world of the visually impaired at a very young age. For most people the only poorly sighted people that they get to know are their elderly grandparents, but here things were different. Daniel runs a website called www.havestickwilltravel.com from which he gives talks on Blind Awareness and Anti Social Behaviour, raising money for blind projects such as talking software for those who cannot afford it and cricket tops for Blind cricket teams. Ricky grew up to be very sensitive to the unsighted world and very knowledgeable about the needs of the poorly sighted. When he was 14 Ricky wrote a song dedicated to his Uncle Dan, the song was called I’m Your Shoulder to Cry On. Daniel was very touched by this. I’m Your Shoulder to Cry On became the catalyst for this C.D. After a school concert in 2006 Ricky and Ray decided that they would like to record a group of songs they had written and borrowed Joe’s studio to do this. Unaided they produced what sounded like a very professional CD of original music and lyrics. So impressed was Daniel by this that he decided to use it to raise money for his Have Stick Will Travel projects. Earlier in the year Dan learnt that he had won an award from the Government Respect Task Force and he decided to use this money to try to raise even more for his disabled projects. He came upon the idea to use the talents of Ray and Ricky and promote the CD they had produced. ‘Question Everything’ is the result of the talents of two remarkable young men and Daniel Gallimore’s belief in their ability. To purchase this CD Production of the CD would not have been possible without the help and advice of several people. Firstly Nikki Lamborn of Never the Bride who put us in touch with her friends and contacts and persuaded them to help. Her enthusiasm and energy knows no bounds. A special thank you to Richard Lawrence for suggesting her. Our grateful thanks to the professionalism and patience of Colin Cotter of 3BC Manufacturing who so kindly pressed the CD at cost for us. The task would have been impossible without his knowledge and guidance. www.3bc.co.uk. Thanks to Matt Sampson who mastered the CD ready for production for free. Thanks also to Janice Tye of 123Design in Bristol who produced the remarkable art work that accompanies this CD. www.123design.co.uk

"The Wind Beneath My Wings " What started as a therapeutic exercise became a very important project for me in 2005. I needed to get the story of my youngest son, Daniel's, fight to regain his health and sense of purpose into book form. Many people are victims of violent crime and although it obviously primarily affects the victim himself, it also changes the lives of other family members as they all struggle to come to terms with the consequences of the particular incident. "The Wind Beneath My Wings" is a mother's story. It tells of the horror of having to watch a much-loved child, already struck down by a debilitating illness, lie in a coma for weeks after a criminal assault on a Bristol street. It tells of the added horror of after nearly three months on life support, him waking to the realization that he has lost his sight. Hospital court cases, threats from unknown sources and bravery awards are all part of this strange new world that we have all been catapulted into. I think if you choose to read this book you will understand why my son Daniel is in fact "The Wind Beneath My Wings". |
